THIS DREAMER COMETH – Genesis 37:19

Genesis 37:19 And they said one to another, Behold, this dreamer cometh.

Jacob had sent his son Joseph to see how his brothers were doing. While Joseph was still a ways off, his brothers saw him and they conspired against him. Joseph’s brothers did not love their brother. In fact, they despised their brother because of the special attention he received from their father and because of the dreams that he had.

In 1 Corinthians 13:5 we learn that love thinks no evil. If Joseph’s brothers had loved their brother, then they would not have allowed themselves to think of ways that they might kill their brother. Because the brothers hated their brother, this hatred was first evident in their thoughts that they latter acted upon.

How can you say that you love someone and yet in your thoughts you think about the ways that you can get back at them? True love cannot say one thing yet think another. It does not matter whether it is a spouse, a relative, or a friend, if you say that you love them, then your thoughts cannot think evil.

It is not easy to control ones thoughts. It is easy to pretend that the thoughts that you think you will never act upon. However, how does a husband and wife go from loving each other to hating each other and seeking a divorce? It occurs when they do not combat the battle of their minds and they allow themselves to start thinking evil about each other.
