HEAR AM I; SEND ME – Isaiah 6:8
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
The prophet Isaiah heard the voice of God, and upon hearing what was near to God, Isaiah was in a position to please God by doing that which the Lord desired. How many other Israelites were alive at the time of Isaiah’s calling? Only Isaiah heard the Lord’s desires and acted upon them? Isaiah could be used of God in a mighty way because he learned to hear God’s voice.
When David was on the run from Saul, he uttered how much he desired a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem. Three of his men went through enemy lines and obtained a drink for David. These men knew what David had wanted and they were attentive to his desires. David probably did not utter that he desired a drink of water in front of all his men, but it was probably something he uttered almost to himself and only those who were near to David could have heard David’s desires. These three men were numbered among David’s mighty men and they did many spectacular things.
David’s three men not only were brave, but they knew how to place themselves in a position that they could hear what David desired. Because they heard David’s desires, they were able to go to great lengths to give to the one whom they serve the desires of his heart. These men did not care for their own lives; all they cared about was meeting the desires of the one whom they served.
We need to be like David’s mighty men. We need to demonstrate our willingness to serve God regardless of the personal costs. When we put the things of the Lord first in our lives, we need to change our priorities so that it is the one whom we serve that is the most important thing to us. Our own desires and our own safety should be secondary to the needs of the One whom we serve.
We need to be like David’s mighty men. We need to demonstrate our desire to put ourselves in a place that we can hear the voice of God. It does not matter if we are willing to obey God, if we never put ourselves in a position where we can hear God, then we never know what God desires. We must learn to draw near to God. We must learn to put ourselves in a position that we can hear HIS still small voice.
You do not hear God’s still small voice if your life is filled with the things of this world. If you allow the world, the flesh, and the devil to control your life; you will never be in a position where you can hear God’s voice. If the lusts of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life are controlling your actions, you will not be close to God and you will not know HIS desires.
If you desire to hear God, then you must add to your faith virtue. You must fill your mind with the good things of God so that you begin to desire the things of God. As you seek for the Lord, you will find HIM. As you ask HIM to speak to you, you will hear HIS voice. You will not hear the still small voice in the hustle and bustle of daily life. In order to hear the still small voice of God, you will have to set aside time where you and God get alone away from all distractions and you concentrate upon HIM.
