WHERE IS YOUR GOD? – PSALMS 79:10
Psalms 79:10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their God? Let him be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.
Multiple times throughout scripture you see someone challenge Israel about just how powerful their God really is. One example occurred during the reign of Hezekiah. Sennacherib, King of Assyria laid siege against Jerusalem. Sennacherib challenged God. Sennacherib was proud of his power and he did not fear God. Hezekiah prayed and cried out to God for help and the Lord delivered Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib.
Hezekiah had known that Sennacherib was coming to attack the nation of Israel and he had prepared militarily for Sennacherib’s coming. Hezekiah had warned the people not to fear the enemy because “there be more with us than with him” (2 Chronicles 32:7). Hezekiah understood that it was God who would bring the victory. Hezekiah did not know how God was going to bring the victory but he understood that victory could only come from the Lord.
You will not always know how God is going to work through you; you just need to have the faith that God is faithful and just. You need to put all your trust in the Lord. David understood that Goliath was mocking God and God was much more powerful than the giant. David placed his trust in God and allowed God to work through him to defeat those who mocked God’s power.
When Elijah challenged the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel, he first challenged the hearts of the people by asking them a question. Elijah asked “How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal, then follow him.” (I Kings 18:21). Elijah understood that people naturally follow those who appear to be most powerful. The nation had followed their own ways for so long that they had totally forgotten the power of God.
The world is full of scoffers who deny the power of God. God is looking for individuals who will place their trust in HIM and allow HIM to demonstrate to the world HIS’ power. If Christians do not live their lives in the power of God, why should the world believe that God is all knowing? The world hears your words that there is a living God, but what evidences are there to prove to them that there is a God?
God would like to do the impossible through you. The world scoffs at HIS’ power and HE would love to use you to demonstrate to the world that HE is worthy to be feared. Are you willing to step out in faith to allow God to do the impossible through you? Are you willing to be like Hezekiah who simply trusted God and cried out to HIM? Are you willing to be like David who stepped out onto the field? Are you willing to be like Elijah who created a challenge to prove to a nation the power of God?
If you are going to challenge the enemies of God, you must completely trust God. You must fill your mind with the good reports of what God has done through you so that you can have the faith necessary to see God work through you. As virtue fills your life, be prepared to see what God can do to those who do not fear HIM.
