DOES YOUR FAITH CAUSE OTHERS TO SEEK GOD FOR DIRECTION – Genesis 24:12

Genesis 24:12 And he said, O Lord God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham.

Abraham sent his eldest servant to go find a wife for his son Isaac. Being the eldest servant in the house of Abraham, he had seen the faith of Abraham rewarded many times. Now that this servant had to make a difficult decision, he cried out to the God of his master and set forth a test fully believing God to answer the test and to make his way clear. This servant had seen that God was real by observing his master, and he had no hesitation to cry out to God for direction.

This servant of Abraham asked God to show him the virgin who was to be the wife of Isaac. The servant asked that the woman whom he asked for a drink who voluntarily offered to also give the ten camels drink was to be the one whom God desired Isaac to marry. God heard the prayer of Abraham’s servant and brought Rebekah to the well who volunteered to draw water for the camels. This servant gave credit to the God of Abraham for guiding his path to finding a wife for Isaac.

Abraham’s faith was so real and so strong that his servant had the confidence of coming to God and asking God to direct his steps. This servant understood that God directed Abraham’s life. Since Abraham commanded him to find a wife for Isaac, it made sense to this servant that the God would guide him to find a wife for Isaac. If the God of Abraham told Abraham of the birth of Isaac 25 years before it occurred, then God had something special for Isaac and God needed to direct him to the right woman for Isaac. God had proven himself faithful to Abraham and since this servant was doing the bidding of Abraham, the servant had no qualms about calling upon God to direct his steps.

This servant had faith that God would hear his prayer and answer. This servant received such confidence by observing Abraham’s faith over the years. This servant knew God was real and thus had the confidence to ask in faith for the Lord to direct him on such an important issue. Abraham’s faith changed his servant’s life.

While this servant is the one who demonstrated the faith in asking God to provide a wife for Isaac, the real story comes from the life of Abraham. It was the example of the life of Abraham that caused this servant to know who to cry out to. If Abraham did not have a personal relationship with God, then this servant would not have called upon God to direct his path and the path of Isaac. Abraham’s faith caused those around him to go to God to seek daily direction regarding important decisions.

Your life should be an example to others of your faith in God. Others should look at you and see that God is alive and that HE does desire to impart wisdom to you regarding the decisions that you are to make. Not only should your family see your relationship with God and desire to have a closer relationship with God themselves, but also, your friends, co-workers, and those who are around you should have confidence to call upon God because they see how HE has been active in your life. When others are faced with difficult decisions, the example of your faith should be so real that they do the right thing and turn to God for direction in their life. Your testimony should give those who see you the faith to call out to God and the confidence to know that God will hear them.
